Maui And The Giant Fish
Three facts i learnt from this story was Maui's brothers were really greedy and they thought Maui was useless and that he couldn't catch fish but Maui's grandmother believed in him and she told him that he was a great fisherman. Maui hid in the hull of the brothers canoe and the brothers canoe was heavier then they thought, well Maui was in the hull of the canoe he saw them put the anchor down so Maui came out of the hull and surprised the brothers the brothers were angry and blamed him for not catching fish. Maui said to put their lines down into the water and Maui said a karakia then they got heaps of fish but when Maui asked for some bait the brothers laughed so Maui punched his nose real hard and it started bleeding and he used his blood for his hook and pulled up the north island for Aotearoa.

MÅrena Kanteasha,
ReplyDeleteSorry it has taken me so long to respond to your blog posts, we had a very busy first day of the programme yesterday!
Your blogpost on Maui is great, I really liked the detail you put into explaining the story. I can't imagine punching myself in the nose, that seems crazy!
Have you heard of any other stories with Maui in them? My favourite is the story of Maui and the Sun. Here's a link if you want to read more about it: http://eng.mataurangamaori.tki.org.nz/Support-materials/Te-Reo-Maori/Maori-Myths-Legends-and-Contemporary-Stories/How-Maui-slowed-the-sun
Looking forward to reading more of your blogposts soon!
Nga mihi
